A lot of people ask me how an author visit can be worked into Curriculum Standards. My friend, Renee Hale, the media specialist/librarian at Henry Moss Middle School in Bowling Green, KY, made this guide for Kentucky teachers. For schools from other states, I think the Core Curriculum is supposed to be common so these suggestions should help you as well. I look forward to coming to your school!

Bird’s family ditched the traditional house to live in an RV and travel across the United States homeschooling by day and playing bluegrass music by night as The Barrett Family Band. On a map of the United States, plot each place Bird’s family plays. Then:
- Identify each town’s population.
- For what is their local economy known?
- What are three “touristy” activities in each town?
- What famous landmarks are located within 100 miles of each town?
- Design a postcard to encourage others to visit each town.
